Thank you for your interest in our automotive research study.
This study consists of three activities - an Online Diary, an In-Depth Discussion (Ethnography), and an online Focus Group Discussion. Each activity is described in more detail below; please read so that you fully understand all aspects of this research study.
If after reading the details you are comfortable with the requirements, and you are able to participate in the timeframes listed, click the ‘Start Survey’ button to see if you qualify for participation.
You are able to participate in all of the following activities, or just one (pending qualification).
Online Diary
This is like a short-term blog that allows us to learn more about you and your vehicle preferences. It would require you to log into a website and complete different activities/tasks over the course of several days. The activities are designed to be short and simple and you will complete each by typing into the platform and appending pictures and/or videos to help describe your responses. Some example tasks are to film a video showing us the interior of your vehicle and what you like most and least, or telling us about yourself and your personality via a 1–2-minute video, or writing about your favorite brands and why you like them and uploading a picture of a recent item you purchased from that brand. The tasks will vary and can be completed at your leisure.
The diary platform offers a quick and efficient way for us to gather information from you and will feel similar to a social media site; however, all of your responses are confidential and other participants will not see any of your responses. The materials you provide (text/pictures/videos) will only be used for internal analysis and will not be released outside of the research companies conducting the research, and the automotive manufacturer that is sponsoring the research.
The activities will be released on June 12 and you can complete a little bit each day or do all the activities at once. We understand things come up and we need to be flexible, so the site is open for a couple weeks. The target due date for you to complete your online diary is June 23. Most people take about four to five total hours spread across several days to complete all activities. Upon completion of all activities you will receive $450. Please note: we will review responses and may ask for additional input. As an added bonus, we will select one person among the fifteen participants who we feel put in the most effort to receive an additional $250.
In-Depth Discussion (Ethnography)
The In-Depth Discussion will be what we call in the research world an Ethnography. Ethnographies allow us to view consumers in their natural habitat - sort of like a human safari. We obtain feedback by watching consumers use products or services how they normally would in their daily lives to not only understand how they use and/or shop for products, but also to learn more about their personalities and motivations.
This ethnography would start at your home and we would then ride along with you to a few different spots of your choice - place of work, shopping center, outdoor activity spot, or any other spot you visit frequently. We expect the ethnography to last two and one-half hours and upon completion you would receive $300. The ethnographies are being conducted between June 28 - July 2.
The entirety of the discussion would be audio and video recorded for our own internal reporting purposes. The audio/video would not be released outside of the research companies conducting the research, and the automotive manufacturer that is sponsoring the research.
Note: the Ethnography participants will be chosen from those that complete the Online Diary. Not all who complete the diary will be chosen to participate in an Ethnography.
Focus Group
A qualitative technique used to help gain an in-depth understanding of consumer attitudes and beliefs. The Focus Group will consist of 4-5 other people like yourself and will be led by one of our professional moderators. We will discuss a variety of automotive topics like vehicle usage, driving habits, future vehicle needs, etc. The group will be conducted via Zoom on July 18. The group will last about 2 hours and upon completion you will receive $250.
